Before the game, a line must be placed 5 steps away from the ladder. This is the so-called throw line. The official throw line is 15 feet away, but most players measure 5 paces away from the ladder to set the throw line. This allows a closer selection for children's games. Ladder Golf is played in rounds. Each round consists of all players who throw 3 Bolas. A coin toss is used to decide which player or team will throw first.
The first player must throw all 3 bolas before the next player can throw his bolas. Bolas can be thrown in at will, as long as they are thrown individually and can bounce off the ground. The winner of the round gets the first roll in the next round. Games are played with a total score of 21. To win, a player must be the only one who scores exactly 21 points after completing a round. If a player exceeds the exact score, that player's points will not count for that turn. For example: A player with 18 points needs 3 points to get the exact score of 21 to win. If this player has 5 points on the ladder after all players have thrown all the threads, none of these points counts and the player enters the next round with 18 points, again requiring 3 points to win. In the event of a tie, the players who draw will play so many overtime cycles until a player finishes a full round 2 points in front of the other player. The 2-point rule only applies in overtime rounds. During the regular game, each player can win as long as that player is the only one who scores exactly 21 points at the end of the round no matter how many points the other players have.

Etiquette of the game:
The basic etiquette of Ladder Golf® is that during the game participants should make as many comments, sounds or moves as possible to distract their opponents during the game. Touching the player while throwing is never allowed. During the game, no participant may go to the ladder before completing the current round of play.

rating:
After all teams have thrown all their bolas, the score is determined by the bolas still hanging from the steps. Players can shoot Bolas in the course of the game. In fact, launching bolas is encouraged by other players and is a great way to play defensively. bolas knocked off during the game do not count as points. Only stuck Bolas after all Bolas have been thrown are scored as points.

Points:
The points determine which step your bola turns. The upper level is worth 3 points, the middle level 2 points and the lower level only 1 point. Players can get an optional 1-point bonus by hanging all 3 tiles in one move or all 3 (1-2-3) tiles in a turn. Per player a maximum of 10 points are available. This is achieved by hanging all 3 bolas on the top step (3 points).

Team play:
Four players can take turns playing Ladder Golf® in each round. The players simply alternate with the other players. Additional bolas can also be purchased so that up to 4 players can play individually on the same ladder, or a second ladder can be purchased for team play. For multiple ladders, 2 players would be in opposite teams on one side and the other 2 opposing players on the other ladder. One side would throw all the bolas and the other team would throw them back. Same rules apply.
